Paul Hagan pleads guilty to murder

Paul Hagans has pleaded guilty to the murder of Desmond Joseph.

In early March, Hagans was charged with aggravated assault when an unconscious and unresponsive Desmond Joseph was found on the 200 block of Rhode Island Ave. NE. However, when Joseph was pronounced dead from his injuries the charge was upgraded to murder.

According to police, Hagans delivered a fatal punch to Joseph during an altercation about parking on March 2. Joseph was transferred to a nearby hospital, where he died the following day from blunt force trauma to the head.

Charging documents show that Hagans turned himself into the police immediately following the altercation. He now faces five years in prison.

Judge Zoe Bush has scheduled Hagans’ sentencing for September 8.
